Magrath and District Chamber of Commerce
Year Two has passed and it is encouraging to see the seeds planted in Year One growing each year. The first annual Chamber Gala last year was a huge success. The 1940s mobster theme was a huge hit and lots of fun. It was great to see so many participate and so many dress the part. A great time was had by all and almost $4000 was raised for the Magrath Trail System at the south end of town. The Trail System will be an important addition to Magrath not only giving a safe place for people to walk and jog but to attract new people to the community and eventually tourists as well, as we eventually tie it in with the Mormon Trail initiative already being promoted by Raymond, Sterling and Cardston.
This year’s Gala theme is a 1950s Happy Days theme and I would expect it will be just as much fun. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, head over to the ATB, First Choice or the Magrath Pharmacy ASAP! Our 3rd Annual Spring Trade Show will be held on April 12 and 13, 2013 and we are already booking tables. If you want to get in on the action, reserve yours right away by Contacting Roger Davies at the Magrath Pharmacy or via the magrathchamber.com website. Hometown Christmas was well attended and the Gingerbread House contest/fundraiser proved to be a big hit with over 20 entries and between the house auction and hot dog sales it raised over $1000 for the Pals of the Pool fund. The Chamber’s input was sought throughout the year by several local committees as well as town hall on different subjects, the most recent being the Heavy Truck Route and Parking bylaw in town hall. It is wonderful to have a voice that represents the business community as a whole and even better to see it highly regarded and sought after by these group who value the input.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Chamber members who helped throughout the year with all the things we accomplished. Whether your roll is big or small, whether your time commitment was extensive or just the little you could do and whether you supported all year long or simply supported by renewing your membership and maybe attending an event, it all is greatly appreciated as it is all greatly needed. Support big or small is what will keep us going. Without even the simplest of support like just renewing your membership, this great thing that has started up would simply wither away eventually. On this note I would like to encourage each and every one of you to not only renew your membership but encourage someone else who has not yet joined to join. Numbers are important and even if you can’t give much if any time to the Chamber, your support through membership alone speaks volumes to the community and will help ensure the future growth of both Magrath itself and the Chamber of Commerce.
In conclusion, I want to say congratulations to our Citizen, Youth and Business of the Year and I look forward to all the great things 2013 will bring to the Chamber and this great community.
