Our first year in review …
The Presidents Message
After our first full year as the Magrath and District Chamber of Commerce, I have one word to sum it all up…WOW! The community of Magrath seems to have had more than its share of tragedy over the last year and a bit, but like a forest after a fire, new life is springing up everywhere. Starting off our first year with 36 members, a great deal of ideas and events were tackled with huge success. Highlights amidst the many things tackled include Hometown Christmas which seems to have a new air about it, a successful and on-going shop local campaign seems to be benefiting many local business owners and our 2011 Spring Trade Show was a huge success and the 2012 Spring Trade Show promises to out do the first year! Great effort, plans and strides were made with town hall to begin the expansion of the trail system at the south end of town and ideas abounded for ways to attract tourists to Magrath. As well, a bank account was set up and funds have been raised and continue to be raised for the trail/tourism initiative.
The year promises to peak on a very high note as we have our first annual Citizen, Business and Youth of the Year Gala Event. Even if you are not a member of the Chamber at this time, you will not want to miss this event, as it will be fantastic! Of course, like anything in life, there is always room for improvement. As President, I am surprised at how few members are taking advantage of the many benefits that come with membership, and my hope is that 2012 will see many more join the ranks and get involved even if that simply means attending the meetings once a month and giving your input.
2011 was an incredibly exciting start for the Magrath and District Chamber of Commerce and all in Magrath will benefit as the Chamber grows and continues its work. If you are an existing member but have not been involved much this year, I urge you to come out to a few meetings and get a sense of the excitement of the future in our community. If you are not yet a member, I highly recommend you join and come see what all we are working on. Your input is wanted, your help weather a little or a lot is needed but more importantly the benefits and rewards are yours.
Thanks Magrath for a fantastic first year!
