CYB = Citizen, Youth, and Business (Annual Chamber Awards)
The Magrath and District Chamber of Commerce Society is very proud to sponsor this award:
- Magrath and District Youth of the Year Award to be presented to an individual under age 18 demonstrating outstanding leadership and volunteer spirit.
2014: Alyssa Doig - Youth of the YearAlyssa is always involved and is extremely cheerful with whatever she is doing. She is a leader at both school and in her church. She helps ref junior basketball games, helps run tournaments, and is extremely supportive of any school events. She is very involved in her church and plays the prelude music every Sunday on the organ. She has done a great job in a number of areas this year – she is the student council president this year - organized the Terry Fox run for the community, made it a "colour run" - assisted coaching youth basketball this past summer. - assisted with Gr 7 and Gr 8 girls VB teams at the school, with many of these practices before school and also spent weekends coaching them - Lots of volunteer work with school athletics. - She is one of the top students in the school and is kind to everyone she meets – recently organized the high school Christmas Shoebox campaign to help make sure youth receive gifts at Christmas. She is the daughter of Rob and Becky Doig.

2013: Derek Strate - Youth of the YearDerek has volunteered a lot in the area of sports and been a representative of our community in the United States playing baseball. He volunteered as a referee for basketball and volleyball this past year. He assisted his father Ron in coaching the Grade 7 girls volleyball team this yea to the school division title. This last summer he played baseball for the Lethbridge Elks American Legion Baseball team. Their league is in the State of Montana. He travelled through Alberta and Montana representing our town and nation in a positive and respectful manner. He was on of the top pitchers on the team and batted .300 as an outfielder. He also was voted by the other coaches in the high school basketball league to play in the high school all-star game as a Grade 11 student, which is an amazing feat since most players are seniors. He is a fun, loving young man who loves to help others and is an honour roll student as well. He has represented out community well this year and will continue to do so in the future.
